The role

As Publicity Lead for FMUK, you will work closely with the Head of Press and the publicity team to provide full communications support for high profile programming across FMUK labels – Naked, Talkback and Thames. The post holder will be comfortable implementing PR strategies across key programming delivering dynamic, creative, and effective campaigns across all target media.

This role requires providing extensive crisis management support often dealing with sensitive and complex issues. Whilst the role will require working across several genres, experience in factual comms is preferred.

You will be a senior member of a small team responsible for working in an incredibly fast paced and pressured environment to ensure a 24-hour, seven day per week PR and publicity support is provided.

Main responsibilities:

  • To deliver strategic, proactive publicity for key programming generating widespread and favourable coverage
  • Extensive crisis management, acting as a senior spokesperson for shows often dealing with often complex and sensitive issues
  • Advise senior programme executives on potential issues with programme editorial, suggesting solutions to manage any issues
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with talent, the production team and key partners
  • Maintain excellent relationships with key editors and journalists
  • Prepare written materials for promotional purposes, including press releases and articles, and ensure that the messages are communicated effectively
  • To organise and manage press days/launches/events/photo shoots/briefings with key talent
  • To work collaboratively with colleagues in the social media and digital teams, ensuring all external communications is co-ordinated and cohesive
  • To identify and coordinate corporate comms opportunities for the label MD’s
  • To help with the development of junior members of the team, ensuring high standards are met across all aspects of the team’s work
  • Deputise for the Head of, as and when required, and collaborate closely on best practice, crisis management and constantly refining and improving company comms

Skills and experience:

  • Excellent relationships with key tabloid and digital press at a senior level
  • Experience working across factual and factual entertainment publicity campaigns
  • Excellent understanding of UK trade media
  • Extensive experience in crisis management – proven experience of dealing with high profile issues and using sound editorial judgement
  • Ability to work in an incredibly fast paced and pressured environment with a huge amount of press scrutiny and live situations
  • Ability to deal with highly contentious and sensitive issues
  • Experience of using creative approaches to publicity across print, digital and broadcast media.
  • Excellent news sense with the ability to spot and generate news stories
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Knowledge and passion for Fremantle shows and an understanding of the press and media coverage secured
  • Able to work out of hours/weekends as and when needed. The role will require regular out of hours work across the year
