Sony Pictures Television EMEA Research team are responsible for supporting SPT’s Content Distribution and International Production businesses, with market and audience based quantitative and qualitative research, across all territories for all television platforms.
This position plays a meaningful role in providing analysis to Sony’s businesses in the EMEA region.
Working with Sony’s award-winning Research team, based in London, the role will connect the business to audience behaviours and wide trends in the video industry. You will be working on projects across the entire EMEA region. Supported by your manager, you will independently deliver analysis to fit research briefs received from business stakeholders and Research colleagues based in the region.
Collaborating with other members of your team and other functions within SPT will be fundamental to success. A broad goal for this position, and the team overall, is to ensure research is used effectively in decision making that positively impact the business.
The role will touch on many areas of media research; consumer behaviour, landscape trends, linear and digital direct to consumer brands, transactional subscription and ad-funded models, in-region content productions and large content licensing agreements.
What you’ll do:
- Assist with and own the creation of research that drives content licensing sales to linear broadcasters, Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) and Advertising Supported Video On Demand (AVOD) platforms across the region. Specifically, for large sales events and new and library TV shows and feature films.
- Understand and utilise over-arching consumer trends driving digital retail sales for SPT. This will include working on Sony’s franchise titles such as Spider-Man, Venom, Ghostbusters and Equilizer.
- Leverage SPT Research’s tools, third party data and primary research to underpin activities relating to SPT’s international production businesses in both the scripted and unscripted space.
- With a broad regional remit, this position will be a key in communicating insights – creating and sharing concise and visually appealing materials with the Research team and broader business.
What you have:
- Passion for the film and television industry, particularly Hollywood movies and U.S. TV series. Solid understanding of key consumption behaviour trends and major industry players.
- An analytic and inquisitive nature, combined with attention to detail.
- Must have strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
- Must be a strong team player with the ability to work independently and manage relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Must have excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, largely managing your workload and delivery timelines independently.
- Proficiency in Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook and Teams is essential.
- Some previous experience in a market research or media position is preferred.
- Experience of using TV ratings data and software is preferred.
- Exposure to how Primary Research data is crafted and applied would be preferred.
- Knowledge of Tableau or other data visualisation tools would be an advantage, but is not crucial.
- Typically 1-5 years’ experience in a similar role with experience of the media industry, or related qualifications.
- Experience of TV measurement software or datasets (for example; TechEdge, EMS, BARB, Nielsen etc.) is helpful, yet not vital.
- Some experience with key media research tools such as; GWI, YouGov Signal, OMDIA, TAPE, K7, Parrot Analytics, Whip Media/TV Time, GoldMedia VOD-ratings, Digital-I SoDA, Foresight Factory, FutureSource, Ampere, ComScore, OCC etc. would be advantageous.
